The collection consists of three letters from Lovick Pierce to his granddaughter Mrs. Ann Pierce Howard of Hamilton, Harris County, Georgia. Dated April 7, 1875, October 22, 1877, and November 4, 1879, the first letter is datelined "Sunshine", the Pierce homeplace, while the other two are headed Sparta. Poignant and filled with grandfatherly advice, the letter of 4 November 1879 is noted as "the last before his death."Also included is a copy of the petition of Robert D. Walker.

Erskine's letters chronicle his personal life and professional career: beginning as a college student; then while living in Mt. Vernon, Maine; traveling in Europe; living in Darien, Connecticut; working in Russia; and working in Hollywood, California. The collection also contains some correspondence relating to Ira S. Quinn West of Thomaston, Georgia, all which discuss family matters and Georgia politics. The collection also contains medical notes from college (1820s); an autograph album of Ginnie T. The collection consists of typescripts, manuscript notes, proof sheets, and correspondence concerning "Sketches of the early history of Madison County" and "Autobiography of Rev. Groves H. Cartledge." Reverend Groves Harrison Cartledge made great efforts towards cataloging the history of Madison County, Ga., and the struggles of the pioneer 18th century minister Reverend John Newton of Hopewell Presbytery. Historical sketches mention many early Georgia families, Presbyterian churches in Northeastern Georgia, and include comments on such varied subjects as depredations by th Indians, soil conservation, difficulties of pioneer life, etc. Jessie Mize, Virginia and Charlotte Newton, and the Rev. Samuel Cartledge compiled this collection. The correspondence sheds further light on the publishing history and the background research performed by this dedicated group. Also included is a sizable amount of genealogical material on the Cartledge family and allied families of the Madison County area.

The writings, sermons and lectures relate to his work in promoting prohibition. Correspondents include University of Georgia Chancellor D.C. Barrow, the Bishop of Atlanta Cleland Kinloch Nelson, and Williams' father, Howard J. Williams. The collection also contains correspondence to Eleanor (Nellie) Barrow Williams from friends and family, letters of condolence upon her father's death, and memorials to Henry Lee Jewett Williams.

The collection consists of papers of Peninah W. Thomas and the Thomas family of Athens (Ga.) from 1821-1959. The papers include correspondence, bills and receipts, account books, legal documents, and sermons (1890s) written by Robert Toombs DuBose. The bills and receipts (1821-1910) contain several receipts for wages paid by Peninah W. Thomas to freedmen. The account books (1834-1845) contain bank accounts of Stevens Thomas and lists of accounts and purchases. The correspondence includes letters (1838-1870) between Peninah W. Thomas and her daughters Ella (Hull), Batavia (Clinch), and Mary (Saffold). The letters mainly contain news of family or friends and social events, but of particular interest are letters from Batavia living in Connecticut during the Civil War. The letters discuss the fall of Ft. Sumter and northerners' inability to understand southern attitudes. Also included are letters from Thomas Reynolds and John Shannon discussing plantation management, the cotton market, and other details of Thomas' business interests. From 1870-1941 letters are between Jennie Stovall (DuBose) and Robert Toombs DuBose, mostly personal but also containing some information on Georgia land sales, his ministry, and service in the Georgia House of Representatives.

Records relating directly to John Jones include sermons (1830-1883), various diaries and financial ledgers, legal documents, and materials relating to the Presbyterian Church. The collection contains some material relating to various Jones family plantations in Georgia including Hopestill and Bonaventure. The collection consists of papers of the Rev. Charles Colcock Jones family of Liberty County, Georgia from ca. 1749-1909. The early letters (1850-1861) are between Charles Colcock Jones and Mary Jones in Liberty County, Georgia and their son, Charles Jr., while at school in Princeton and Harvard and later in Savannah (Ga.) where he set up his law practice. The letters discuss social and family life, plantation life, politics and government, religious philosophies, and events leading up to the Civil War. From 1861-1865, Charles Jr.'s letters chronicle his involvement as an officer in the Chatham Artillery stationed along the Georgia coast near Savannah, then Charleston and James Island (S.C.), and Jacksonville (Fla.). After the war, the personal correspondence is mainly between Charles Jr., his mother Mary Jones, his wife Eva Eve Jones, and his brother Joseph Jones. There is also a smattering of correspondence regarding his law practice. The collection also contains two volumes of letters Eva Eve Jones wrote to family describing her travels through Europe in 1879, manuscripts of Charles Jr.'s writings on Georgia history, Charles Jr.'s speeches including an 1861 speech to the Chatham Artillery, and addresses (1886-1892) he gave before the Confederate Survivors Association. Also included is a copy of the original manuscript for William Bartram's book Observations on the Creek and Cherokee Indians attributed to Ephraim G. Sqier (1821-1888). The manuscript contains tracings of Bartram's drawing of prehistoric mounds, Creek towns, and Cherokee and Creek structures not found in the published work.
